"It gets three stars because the people who work here work hard and are always polite. The company that owns this facility, Hawthorn, is the reason the score is low. The food is mediocre, the bus has no wheelchair lift (and Hawthorn refuses to add one or get a new bus), and there is only one maintenance person--and he can't keep up with things. We're sorry to read that this is your experience. Our community does not offer or purport to offer care services for seniors; however, many folks age in place or move in and access assistance from providers that rent space in the building (or outside people/agencies) to help them reach the same level of independence that most of their neighbors have. We cannot deny them their Fair Housing rights; however, we do try to paint a picture of what a successful resident is and that does not include memory impairment like you describe. "We live in a cottage here for over a year. Love it - wouldn't live anywhere else. They feed us 3 good meals a day with excellent optional choices if needed. Management and staff are very welcome and helpful. Residents are like one big family, everyone looking out for everybody else but not nosy. Activities are abundant and you can be as busy as you want!"
